The Figure Series

My interest in rituals and myths has led me to the American Southwest, where the petroglyphs and pictographs of ancient tribes have left a lasting impression. The simplicity and mysteriousness of these drawings inspired me to create my own intuitive form of iconography.

All the photos are unique originals derived from the Type 55 Polaroid film  (4x5”) that gives you a negative and a positive image simultaneously.

The photos are light paintings done at the time of exposure and there is no manipulation involved at a later stage. All were done in the desert of the Southwest.

Once the prints and negatives have initially been processed, they were transformed over a significant period of time (two weeks to one year) through different chemical reactions and exposures to the elements before they were treated for permanence.
